FEELIN' GROOVY?

When I chose the name for my new book about Ageless Aging, I wanted it to be something that would capture the idea of the book, plus to give readers a little nostalgic smile. I mean who can hear that phrase without starting to hum that catchy little tune from Paul Simon? Of course, after I decided on the name and had the cover created, I found out that Paul really doesn't like the song, but by then it was too late and either Paul or I just have to get over it. I think we all like to feel groovy but, in this very interesting world in which we live, it isn't always easy. It sometimes seems that everyone is either having or getting ready to have some kind of argument, the news is chock full of things that are just downright depressing or aggravating, and those tech gadgets or apps we're inundated with go out of their way to make us crazy. So instead of letting it get to me, I came up with a few conclusions. First, I didn't break it, so it isn't always my job to fix it, whatever it is. Trying to listen to all the noise will make you crazy. And that the only person that I'm hurting by getting upset about the price of eggs is me. So instead, I've adopted a Feelin' Groovy kind of attitude. I fix what I can fix that needs fixing to keep me going, limit my exposure to the news to those things that interest me but not set me off and, realize I'm not all that fond of omelets anyway. As Boomers we've seen a lot, and many times the problems appeared insurmountable. But in the end, for better or worse, they worked themselves out and the world kept on spinning. Now I'm not suggesting you just check out completely. That isn't good for anybody. But the next time you find yourself drifting toward a thing that will irritate or agitate you, just take a breath and remember you're just "lookin' for fun and Feelin' Groovy".  At least, that's the way I look at it.
